11th October Lethridge to Fort Mc Leod to Calgary

Out start to the day was not the best at the Thrift Lodge in fact it was just the opposite to the previous night. The night booking clerk had been just marvelous and could not have helped us any better and she had indicated that as part of our lodging in rate for the night we received a breakfast the next morning.

This was not to be and when we arrived at the desk at 09:08 we were told by the duty person that breakfast was off and we were too late. In addition she said that the food had been put away. This was not true as the food was still in the dining room. In addition she pointed to the area where the sign was which was hidden behind another display and in fact no time line for the breakfast had been indicated the night before. Sorry for all this blog guys but we felt it was important to get this message out there.

After the above we drove to McDonalds for breakfast and then on to Fort Mc Cleod to view the mock up of the original one.

From here we then detoured to the “Head Bashed in Buffalo Jump”. This visit turned out to be a revelation; the building was a credit to the architect and the builders and in fact the tradespersons as well. It did not finish there the staff were pleasant and extremely helpful and the exhibits were well presented.

We went to the theatre which started automatically on entry and were totally enthralled at the presentation of the process of enticing the herd of buffalo over the edge of the cliff. We then proceeded to the top floor in the lift and walked to the viewing platform on the cliff top. While there it was below freezing and Rhonda a team member from the facility came to make sure we had found our way to the top OK. On the way down we inspected all the artifacts and even noted the beautiful carpet with the Buffalo image woven in to the pattern. A great display and a visit worthwhile.

On the road again and off to Calgary arriving late afternoon. We booked in to the hostel and then off on the free trams to explore the main shopping area. At the end of the city tram run we hopped off and walked back having a coffee at MacDonald’s on the way, explored the shops and the Calgary tower along the way. We finished the walk through the women’s park and spied on a feeding squirrel.
