28th October

Sacramento to San Francisco

After a good nights rest in Sacramento we headed for the big city. We had been for-warned that the Bay bridge was out because of structural repairs and all traffic would be accessing Frisco via the Golden Gate Bridge from the North. This would give us the opportunity to see the famous Redwood trees on the way in. We crossed the San Rafael Bridge to the North Shore and headed for the famous old growth tree forrest.

Then over the crowded Golden Gate and into the viewing car park to have a closer look at the famous engineering marvel. We took a short stroll out to the main span and a lot of photos on the way. From the bridge we then headed for the Fort Mason to find our hostel accommodation. It was in a prime location with lots of famous view, such as Alcatraz, Golden Gate, and Bay Bridge and close at hand to the Fisherman’s wharf.

Our three days in San Francisco was full of the traditional seek and find the highlights such as, Alcatraz, China Town, Cable car rides, Ferry on the bay and utilizing the light rail system.

The finale to the San Francisco visit was the wonderful family night we enjoyed with Cousins Lisa, Brian and their two beautiful daughters Heidi and Hailey. It began with a Ferry ride to Sausalito, being met at the wharf, taken to a lovely dinner and finally being seen off back at the Ferry to San Francisco. Thanks guys it was sad to part after such a wonderful time together.

The next day it was back on the road again for Los Angeles, loved San Francisco.

31st October (Halloweens Day)
South towards Los Angeles, along the picturesque coastal highway. It was a remarkable feat of road works to achieve such an experience for the traveler especially the sea mist. Along the way we viewed the large colony of elephant seals and the famous Hearst Castle. In fact by the time we had arrived at the Hearst village it was time to stop for the night.

After shopping for food we were passed by some trick or treat girls, but luckily they did not approach us or we would have had to hand over our shopping as that was all we had.
